Living By Grace Update
I have just
returned from several days with Pastor
Bill Barnett of Oneonta, Alabama. Pastor
Barnett has been experiencing and teaching the life of grace for over
twenty years. He has grown in his understanding of the message throughout that
period of time. It was a
refreshing experience to have time alone with him discussing the truths of the
message and how God has used these truths to change our lives and the lives of
those we have shared the message with. Two testimonies of
those attending the studies stand out. A young mother named Denise
testified that at least six weeks before the study, God had placed in her a deep
desire to have more of Him in her life. She said that she had been taught the
same truths eight years ago but had not understood. She understood this time.
More than one time she testified, “I feel so free.” She added, “Why
can’t people understand this? It is so plain in the Bible.” I
had been invited by Brother Barnett to teach our recently
printed book, “The Pursuit of the Upward Call.”—which discusses Paul’s
desire to experience life in the heavenlies without interruption. A
lady came early to the study one evening with a testimony. She said, “This
morning as I was praying for someone, I said to the Lord, ‘I lift Him up to
you.’” Then she said, “I guess it was the Lord Who said to me, ‘Don’t
lift him up to me. Hand him to me.’” She
was experiencing her life in the heavenlies and did not have to lift him up. She
was “alive to God.” Later, I asked her to tell the entire group what she had
told me. She did—and gave us all a new insight into intercessory prayer.
