SALVATION IN PROGRESS

Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

Jesus always lives to make intercession for the salvation of a believer. Because the Book of Hebrews is written to saved people, the word “save” in this verse refers to a believer’s growth as a Christian. All who are born again experience immediate change in their lives. These changes, though, are only the beginning of what God has in His mind for the new believer.

God has in His mind that every believer experience a lifetime of spiritual changes. He wants all believers to always know that they have not grown into full spiritual maturity—and will not in this life.

The changes that came to the new believer at conversion were preceded by spiritual desire. The continual changes God has in mind for all believers will also be preceded by desire.

Those who are living out their oneness with Christ know that the “big” changes in them began to take place when they began to experience their oneness. They also know that a God-given deep desire for change preceded His revelation of how to experience change. Because they want all believers to experience the quality of life God has given them, they are encouraged to know that God creates deep spiritual desire in other believers. In addition, they are encouraged to know that God uses the quality of life He has given them to create in others desire for change.

Those living out their union with Christ are the “the salt of the earth”—being used by God to make other believers thirsty for changes God wants to make in them.

We can believe that as Jesus prays for the spiritual growth of each believer, He prays for the Father to give him a desire for change.

An aching for change in the heart of a believer for himself, the unsaved and all believers is a spiritually healthy way to begin a new year.
