god waiting on us

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.  1 John 5:14-15

We are familiar with verses like Isaiah 40:31 that tell us we are to wait on God, but these two verses say that God waits on a believer to ask Him to do something He desires to do.

Think about the Great Commission.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations … Matthew 28:18-19

Jesus has all authority in heaven and earth but He is going to use His followers to do what He wills to do. His is the power, but He always takes believers along with Him.

Someone has said, “Without God, we can’t. Without us, God won’t.” This is often true in the work of the Kingdom. This is a revelation of both the importance of believers and the greatness of their responsibility.

We must at all times be free from living out of our point of view and available to God to live out of His point of view (Romans 6:11-13) or He will be waiting on us.

In addition, when we experience life in the heavenlies, we are in a better position to know what He desires to do through us, which shortens His waiting time to express Himself through us.

… present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God (Romans 6:13b).
